January 31, 2021

As of this morning [Jan 31] all customers have had power restored, BELCO confirmed, with the company adding that a result of damage to some infrastructure from the storm, they will “conduct two planned emergency outages” in the east end tomorrow [Feb 1].

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] today provided an update on the electricity restoration efforts following a severe winter storm that damaged distribution infrastructure across the island. As of this morning all customers have had power restored.

“As a result of damage to some infrastructure from the storm, BELCO will conduct two planned emergency outages in the east end tomorrow, Monday February 1st. These outages are to address issues on an overhead distribution line before the next weather system brings further strong winds to the island on Tuesday, February 2nd. The first outage will take place on Barry Road, St. George’s between 9 am and 12 pm. The second outage will be on Wellington Back Road, St. George’s between 1 pm and 5 pm. ”

BELCO President Dennis Pimentel said: “On behalf of all our staff at BELCO, I would like to sincerely thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we recovered from the recent winter storm.

“Thanks also to our staff and road crews who worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power in often challenging conditions. We’re preparing for the next round of weather on Tuesday and remain prepared and committed to providing the best service possible to our valued customers.”
