Court: Dr Ewart Brown Charged With 13 Counts
Dr Ewart Brown — the former Premier of Bermuda — was today [Jan 20] charged with 13 counts in Magistrates Court.
The charges, as read out, related to time frames spanning 2001 to 2010, with the allegations were that while being holder of public office as a Government Minister, and as Premier, he corruptly asked for and received benefits, with the total amount in question allegedly exceeding $4 million, with some, but not all, of the charges related to an agreement with Lahey Clinic.
Dr Brown, who was was represented by Jerome Lynch QC and appeared via video link from Florida, did not speak during the hearing and was granted $250,000 bail with one like surety, and is set to re-appear at the April arraignments session.
