EY’s Robert Moncrieff, Global Insurance International and Transactions Tax Services leader, has joined the EY region of the Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands to also serve as regional BEPS [base erosion and profit shifting] and Economic Substance Leader.

Now based in Bermuda, he has been with EY since 1989. He has held various roles throughout the firm in London, Boston, Chicago and New York.

“Over the past 20 years or so, Robert has been based in New York, with a focus on multinational insurance, in particular the London and Bermuda markets, and BEPS matters such as Economic Substance and the impact of the OECD’s [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] wider proposals,” the company said.

“He also brings experience in advising on how to approach and manage the European Union’s measures impacting the British Overseas Territories and The Bahamas.”

Mr Moncrieff said, “I’m looking forward to taking my 30+ years of international financial services experience to the market.

“Our clients seek experienced counsel from people that are completely embedded within the region and understand the regulatory landscape but who can also leverage the power of our global network. It is a crucial time for our region as we navigate transparency and disclosure measures, OECD initiatives and international tax changes.”

Bill Bailey, Partner at EY Bermuda Ltd. and Regional Tax Leader, shared, “Robert has an impressive track record in cross-border restructuring, finance and reinsurance, and positioning tax departments as enablers of change.

“Not only has he repeatedly proven himself to successfully manage relationships with the OECD and the EU, but he also is deeply knowledgeable of the region because he is physically located in Bermuda, a core differentiator in how we advise clients. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
