Staircase Access Closed Until Work Completed
The Ministry of Public Works said they wish to “remind the public that using the Elbow Beach public staircase from Tribe Road No 4b is currently prohibited.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Use of the existing staircase poses a risk to public safety. The previously erected signs and barriers to prevent public access were unlawfully removed. The Ministry can advise that the signs and barriers have been reinstated. Access to the staircase will remain closed until construction works are complete in the coming months.
“The Ministry is looking to construct a permanent solution rather than a temporary fix. The permanent solution will include building a new robust reinforced concrete staircase and a foreshore protection system adjacent to the stairs to mitigate future erosion.
“The Ministry of Public Works would like to remind the public of the recently announced Governments Economic Stimulus Programme for which this project will fall. The Ministry remains committed to ensuring the new infrastructure is fit for purpose and stimulates the construction industry.
“The Ministry encourages the full cooperation of the public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.”
