BSF To Hold Pirates Of Bermuda Challenge
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation [BSF] announced a call for “willing physical or virtual pirates” for the Pirates Of Bermuda Challenge fundraiser, which will take place on April 10th, with the event organisers saying that it will “fully adhere to Covid-19 protocols in place.”
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Sloop Foundation [BSF] today announced a call for “willing physical or virtual pirates” for a major fundraiser.
“The BSF’s Pirates of Bermuda Challenge will take place on 10th April 2021 on board the Spirit of Bermuda in Hamilton Harbour. And this year participants also have the option to do the event virtually.
“Participants in the Pirates of Bermuda Challenge help raise money for BSF’s experiential education and life-skills programmes for middle school students on board the Spirit of Bermuda ship, as well as their Pathways programme for Bermudians to pursue marine-based careers. People can also contribute by supporting participating pirates with donations.”
“This is a fun and easy way to support a great cause,” said Robin Hamill, CEO of the BSF. “We’re looking for pirates to sign up from the local community. Their ‘mission’ will be to collect as many donations as possible to either walk the plank and take the plunge into Hamilton Harbour, or be saved from doing so.
“People can also choose to do it virtually by jumping overboard in their own bubble at home or at the beach. They can also nominate other pirates to join in the fun. All funds raised will go directly to our youth development programmes, which have literally been life changing for many of Bermuda’s young people.”
Mr. Hamill added that the Pirates in-person event will fully adhere to Covid-19 protocols in place, with social distancing and a staggered schedule of plank walkers.
“If people want to dress up in line with the pirates theme that’s even better,” he added. “We’ll be videoing the April 10th event, and we ask people doing the plunge virtually to also video themselves and share the images with us on Facebook or Twitter and their own social media. Anyone can join us really, you can nominate your boss, your family or your best friend as long as they’re 18 or over and can swim!”.
