BTA: ‘Rightsizing’ & ‘Consolidating’ Certain Roles

March 2, 2021

The Bermuda Tourism Authority is “rightsizing the organisation to ensure it is purpose-built for the tourism recovery” which “equates to consolidating and repatriating certain roles, and in some cases, downsizing headcount.”

BTA Interim CEO, Glenn Jones said, “Like any travel industry business struggling into a second year of the pandemic, the Bermuda Tourism Authority is rightsizing the organisation to ensure it is purpose-built for the tourism recovery.

“That equates to consolidating and repatriating certain roles, and in some cases, downsizing headcount. This process is also resulting in the promotion of some Bermudian talent.

“This important and thoughtful strategic planning is not yet complete. We will update our stakeholders once the final HR plan is in place to meet the bold strategic objectives shared with the public last month.”

We asked for further information about the impact on jobs, and were informed the process is not yet complete, so further information is not available at this time.

Back in April 2020, at the start of the pandemic, the BTA announced they were cutting spending across divisions and instituting temporary salary and workweek reductions; with employees taking a workweek reduction of one or two days with corresponding pay decreases, while C-suite executives maintained their full workweek while having their salary cut.
