Numbers Will Be ‘Staggering, Triple-Digit Likely’
The “numbers will be staggering over the next few days” and “it is likely on Monday that we’ll be reporting triple-digit cases for the first time,” Premier David Burt said.
This comes as the island currently has 294 active cases, which is the highest ever for Bermuda so far, with officials announcing 81 new cases on Saturday, which was around 24 hours after the last results were announced, and today’s results will cover a 48 hour time span.
There were over 230 new confirmed cases last week:
- Sun, March 28: No test results publicly released
- Sat, March 27: 81 new confirmed cases
- Fri, March 26: 33 new confirmed cases
- Thu, March 25: 34 new confirmed cases
- Wed, March 24: 40 new confirmed cases
- Tues, March 23: 10 new confirmed cases
- Mon, March 22: 41 new confirmed cases
Speaking on the Shirley Dill radio show on the BBC this weekend, the Premier said, “All we have to do is we have to look to what took place in November, and we can look how quickly we went up and how quickly we went down, and the same thing will happen this time.
“If we do what is necessary, we’ll go up very quickly, and we’ll go down very quickly. But the numbers will be staggering over the next few days, it is likely on Monday that we’ll be reporting triple-digit cases for the first time, and they will look very staggering, but that’s because we’re casting a very wide net. And as I have explained, there are instances where this is very transmissible. So one person, if they are positive, is spreading it to a number of people far more than what we’d have seen in our previous outbreaks.”

Clearly the numbers have been known for some time and have been carefully manipulated so as not to release them all at once. Only staggering to the Premier and Ministers who have known for weeks about the so called UK variant and did nothing to properly quarantine returning residents. Many comments here and elsewhere have warned the powers that be that they had failed to establish proper quarantine. Now the community spread will likely force the herd immunity to take place, but at what economic cost that could have been avoided.
The truth is that many heard about how Ministry of Health/Nurses/etc. were talking about having just gotten 80 positives last week Wednesday, which means they were probably Tuesday’s results.
We found them out on Saturday.
Probably didn’t want to scare away their Cruise Ships before they had locked them into a contract.
We (or those of us paying attention) have known for weeks about the UK variant of COVID-19 being present in Bermuda.
Moreover, all but a handful of the recent 380 or so transmissions have been local.
The current situation has nothing to do with returning residents or visitors, we did this to ourselves by not following the regulations and guidance.
We cannot blame the PLP Government for this situation. We did it to ourselves. Now start taking responsibility and stop trying to blame others!
If we had 81 on Saturday and don’t report for 2 days then 160+ would be expected.
Its not good but I doubt it will be staggering.
Hypothetically, if all 294 active cases plus the hundreds more anticipated all recover, can we act like this was all an overreaction to the flu season?
That’s not even a hypothetical. The numbers are changing all the time ya know like a bank account. The numbers go up and down all the time. 294 and the 100 won’t just recover at the drop of a hat. This number will be rolling for a long time. Covid is here to stay and so you lot better straighten up.
You can act like that all you want
I, and many other people, would think you’re a moron
But you can act like that, sure
“can we act like this was all an overreaction to the flu season?”
No, we cannot.
I and many members of my family are “at risk” people. None of us want to die because some conspiracy theorist wants to deny what scientists all over the world and 3.8 million dead people have evidenced!
What’s gonna happen with this sailing event coming up & the cruise ship contract?
I guess money talks and people are listening
