Video: Morning Newsflash: One Year Of Covid

March 18, 2021

Today’s [March 18] Bernews Morning Newsflash is a special edition that takes a quick look back at the past year, with the first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Bermuda announced one year ago today, on March 18, 2020, leading to an unprecedented time in Bermuda history.

From the airport closing to passenger flights for months, an island-wide curfew, police checkpoints, numerous event cancellations, a last name system for grocery shopping, business closures, to wearing masks becoming the norm, the past year has been unlike any other.

While the vaccination programme is going quite well — with over 30,000 done to date putting Bermuda in the top 10% of the world in vaccinations per capita — the island is currently experiencing another surge in cases, with around 50 new confirmed cases over the past four weeks, and officials are strongly urging everyone to follow the guidelines to prevent a further increase in cases.

The Special Edition Newsflash below just shows a flash of a small fraction of the developments over the past year, for a far more comprehensive look at the developments, please see the timeline on, which has almost 300 entries.

In addition to being available each morning on the website, the Newsflash is designed to suit your favourite social media network, so is also available directly on Bernews Facebook page, the main Bernews Twitter feed, our YouTube channel, our Tumblr, with a shortened version available via Instagram.
