MarketPlace Shelly Bay To Close For Two Days
[Updated] MarketPlace has confirmed they will close their Shelly Bay store for two days — Wednesday, April 21st and Thursday, April 22nd — to “continue our deep cleaning and sanitization process in the entire store and get all our associates tested.”
A flyer posted on their social media, which we confirmed was legitimate, said, “We all continue to fight the economic and personal effects that the pandemic has caused in Bermuda. This will be a long term battle and we will get through this together. We are resilient, determined, and will persevere.
“The MarketPlace’s most urgent priority throughout the pandemic has been to provide a healthy and safe environment for our associates and customers. We have and will continue our detailed cleaning and sanitization regime in our stores.
“Due to an abundance of caution, the company has decided to close The Marketplace Shelly Bay store for two days [Wednesday, April 21st & Thursday, April 22nd]. This will enable us to continue our deep cleaning and sanitization process in the entire store and get all our associates tested.
“Our employees will be compensated during this temporary store closure. We will reopen Friday, April 23rd at 7:00am. Thank you for your continued patronage and understanding.”
Update: The store is, as announced, closed – and cleaning company trucks can be seen outside today

Absolutely nothing in the MarketPlace communication to assist customers, other than that the store will be closed for two days. Anyone who has shopped at that store since the latest shelter in place has started should be concerned.
Why don’t they just come clean and say that some had tested positive? I know the real deal here. And further more, those managers roam from store to store. So come clean Market Place.
Closing the store is actually stupid. Every time someone is sick we’re going to continue to close up shop!!!!!
With COVID positive people traveling and exposing themselves to staff at the airport day in and day out do you see SKYPORT closing the airport also LOLOLOLOL.
FAT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not surprised, was in another store yesterday east of Hamilton saw not only several people not sanitizing there was a lady going through several open bags of grapes with her hands when I pointed out to her this should not be d one, she replied that sh e was buying some wasnt I and other words. One sees this quite frequently can these not be packed in say one pound bags or not sold at all. difficult to critise store
That drives me nuts and you are right you see that a lot especially with the grapes. I guess it is like an invitation to entitled people when the grocer leaves the zip bags open. I actually saw a woman break the stems off of broccoli one time and discard them! I think she must have thought she was being clever but I wanted to tell her she just threw away the best part.
