Police Comment On Arrest Video Circulating

April 10, 2021

A video is circulating that shows “officers effecting an arrest at a location in Pembroke” after they “responded to reports of a Covid breach where an estimated 30 people were gathered in an enclosed premises” and “one individual became aggressive,” the police said today.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a video circulating showing officers effecting an arrest at a location in Pembroke.

“The arrest took place after officers responded to reports of a COVID breach where an estimated 30 people were gathered in an enclosed premises, reportedly not wearing masks or practising social distancing.

“Upon police arrival, several persons attempted to leave the scene, others were found hiding inside the premises.

“One individual became aggressive and when warned about his actions became even more confrontational towards officers who attempted to arrest him.

“Because of the subject’s aggressive behaviour, there was a use of force proportional to the situation faced by our officers.

“Other party-goers began confronting our officers who moved to disperse them, warning that they too faced being arrested.

“Our officers produced their tasers in an effort to to get the group to comply.

“At no time were tasers deployed, even as the officers were outnumbered and at risk. The video depicts only what happened after the arrest and not what led to it.

“We stand by our officers as throughout the entire episode, they acted professionally, in keeping with the dictates of their training and in compliance with proper police protocol.”

“That notwithstanding, a thorough investigation of the matter is now underway.”

  1. Thank you says:

Thank you to our police officers and our fire fighters, paramedics….,. They put themselves at risk for our safety and to assist us. People who have parties and take no personal or community responsibility should be arrested. If they resist arrest, suffer the consequences. The police may have to use force, when they are outnumbered and folks don’t comply firstly with the Covid restrictions and then the instructions of officers!

The community stands behind our officers!!

  2. Hmm says:

Well done. This is what not being taught to respect elders, parents, teachers and authority looks like. BPS you absolutely have our support.

  3. Toodle-oo says:

*The video depicts only what happened after the arrest and not what led to it.*

But that won’t stop the cries of police brutality or provoked by the police from the peanut gallery .

Just like the case of spread in the Courts Department the amount of stupid out there is staggering.
It will be very interesting to see what the outcome of tomorrow’s press conference is.

  4. Tekla says:

This is why BPS needs The RBR or at least some RBR personal patrolling with them so a situation like that wont happen again

  5. puzzled says:

  8. Isha says:

I totally agree with these comments. Break the law —-receive a penalty. These are not children. These are arrogant, irresponsible adults who just don’t give a damn.

  9. Joe Bloggs says:

I’ve been saying for weeks that we are doing this to ourselves. Here is more proof.

And these people who need to party and object to the police doing their job will be the first to complain about the second lock-down.
