250 Volunteers Join KBB Great Big Cleanup
250 volunteers took part in the annual Great Big Cleanup event hosted by Keep Bermuda Beautiful over the past weekend.
A spokesperson said, “Over the past weekend 250 volunteers joined Keep Bermuda Beautiful at 56 locations islandwide for their annual Great Big Cleanup event. Tonnes of litter were removed from the Island’s roadsides, parks, beaches and railway trails giving the environment and island a clean before we welcome our summer tourists and the lifting of Covid restrictions.
“KBB has hosted an annual cleanup for more than 50 years and despite restrictions were able to go ahead with groups staying within their family bubbles. The support of these trash heroes is invaluable!
“While the cleanup is finished, KBB encourages everyone to get out in the sunshine and do their bit to cleanup by picking up in their neighbourhood and being mindful of contributing to local litter. Locals can also become a member of KBB and support their action and education programmes which seek to eliminate litter from our environment.”
Katie Berry, KBB’s Executive Director said, “The Great Big Cleanup event helps to draw attention to the impact of single use items on our environment and KBB encourages everyone to be more careful in their consumption and disposal habits. The majority of the litter collected is single use items such as drink containers, disposable face masks, paper receipts and plastic waste.
“Most of this litter could be avoided if people were more careful. In the past 12 months our outdoor spaces and places have mattered to us more than ever before. Thank you to KBB’s Trash Heroes for showing some love for our island home.”
