79 Students To Graduate From Bermuda College
79 Bermuda College graduates will receive associate degrees, diplomas or certificates, on Thursday [May 20] with the commencement ceremony to be held virtually.
A spokesperson said, “Seventy-nine Bermuda College graduands will receive associate degrees, diplomas or certificates, on Thursday, May 20, in a virtual ceremony culminating yet another unprecedented academic year of challenge as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Notwithstanding the challenges, 52% of the Class of 2021 graduated with honours, earning either merit [GPA 3.0 – 3.49] or distinction [GPA 3.5 – 4.0] status.
“The Associate of Arts [Business Administration] programme has produced 20 graduates, remaining the largest group in this year’s graduating class. 16 graduates are dual enrolment students who will be awarded associate degrees or certificates, prior to receiving their high school graduation certificates in June.
“Two Associate in Science [Nursing] students were able to complete their degree requirements last semester, and will be graduating on Thursday, both earning honours. Unfortunately, similar to 2020, the pandemic prevented 10 nursing students from completing their degrees because of the clinical component of the graduation requirements. It is hoped that this final portion will be completed in the Fall.
“Four students will be graduated from the Mount Saint Vincent Bachelors in Business Administration degree programme, specialising in Management.”
College President, Dr. Duranda Greene saluted the courage of students and the dedication of faculty and support staff in bringing the academic year to a successful end, despite the challenges.
“Certainly, we celebrate our students’ resilience, persistence, dedication, commitment, tenacity, and their ability to pivot! Those are also the hallmarks that we commend in our wonderful faculty and staff for bringing our students to the culmination of this part of their journey with us,” she said.
A spokesperson said, “The 2021 Commencement speaker is Mr. Jamel Hardtman, B.Sc., MBA, Bermuda Communications Group Co-Founder; “The Daily Hour” On-air Producer/Host; and The Full 100 Radio & Store Tunes Radio Programmer. He is also an activist, entrepreneur, mentor, coach, and Bermuda College alum. Mr. Hardtman is the Account Executive for the BB&T Centre/Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League in Sunrise Florida and is also a member of Bermudians Against the Draft, the group that played a major role in bringing conscription to an end in Bermuda. He was a part of the first graduating class of CedarBridge Academy, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management Technology from New England Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration from Johnson & Wales University.
“Ms. Chervonne Hodsoll, graduand of the Associate of Arts and Science programme, is the Class of 2021 Graduate Speaker.
“A virtual graduation ceremony will be streamed on Cable Channel 82, and on the College’s website [www.college.bm] through its YouTube page, beginning at 12 noon. At 2 p.m. the College will host a celebratory drive-through taking a new route over Stonington Avenue and around the Coco Reef Resort entrance for the new graduates, in caps and gowns, to collect their degrees, diplomas and certificates.”
Bermuda College government funding is what $15,000,000? 79 Graduates is about $190,000 per graduate for this year alone lol!!!!’
20 business graduates and 16 are high school students!!!! This is the highlight!!
Government of Bermuda; just get 100 spots at a UK university and even without a volume discount at what £10,000 per year we would save the taxpayers millions!!!!!!
Smh
Congratulations to all.
