May 19, 2021

During the week of June 7th, the Ministry “will conduct its Biannual Septage Waste Disposal Operations” which “may result in unpleasant odours experienced in the residential areas surrounding the Marsh Folly Composting Facility.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works advises that during the week of 7 June 2021, it will conduct its Biannual Septage Waste Disposal Operations.

“These operations may result in unpleasant odours experienced in the residential areas surrounding the Marsh Folly Composting Facility. Despite this, the Ministry assures there is no environmental risk to area residents.

“For the public’s reference, the operations process is as follows:

  • The Tynes Bay Septage Receiving Facility collects residential and commercial cesspit waste from around the Island. Every six months, the facility must remove these waste solids and transport them to Marsh Folly. The best health and safety and environmental practices are used while executing these procedures.

“The Ministry apologises in advance for any unpleasant odours that may arise and thank the public for their patience, cooperation, and understanding while these necessary works are conducted.”
