Bermuda Commercial Bank Donates To Charities
Bermuda Commercial Bank donated $5,000 each to three charities, with The Eliza Dolittle Society, Woman’s Resource Centre and Centre Against Abuse all receiving funds.
“BCB’s Chief Executive Officer, Hubert Esperon distributed the donations, noting that this was the second such donation to these three specific charities since the pandemic began, saying: “We acknowledge the increased incidence of food insecurity and domestic abuse that has been exacerbated by the pandemic and have focused our giving in those areas, as part of BCB’s corporate social responsibility to this community.”
The Eliza Dolittle Society [TEDS] Executive Director, Clare Mello said, “Since Covid-19 began in 2020 and the recent stay at home order of 2021 there has been a steady increase in the number of people visiting the food pantry, many of them getting help for the first time.
“The face of food insecurity includes family members, neighbors and work colleagues who previously had stable incomes and have now lost jobs or had their hours cut back. Families are faced with choosing between food and other essentials such as utilities, medical care and rent. TEDS is continuously seeking ways to better serve our clients, to help reduce the stress they are experiencing and to alleviate this growing issue in Bermuda. Thanks to the generous support of BCB, TEDS can put food on the table for those who need it most.”
Lorna Dixon-Marable, Co-chair of the Centre Against Abuse said; “Once again the Centre Against Abuse would like to thank Bermuda Commercial Bank for their kind donation of $5,000. BCB’s continued support is very much appreciated. The funds will help us to provide for those individuals and families that are survivors of domestic abuse in our community.
“We have seen a measurable increase in this past year for requests for Domestic Violence Protection Orders [DVPO]. The Court Advocacy Programme that we provide is a safety option that is utilized by many survivors of domestic abuse, to establish safe boundaries between them and their abuser. The funds donated by BCB will go towards the cost of obtaining DVPO’s and will assist clients with maintaining their safety.”
Tina Laws, Executive Director of The Women Resource Centre said; “The Women’s Resource Centre is very grateful to the Bermuda Commercial Bank for their tremendous support through the donation of $5,000. BCB’s philosophy is directly aligned with our mission to support women and families thereby fostering community. The donation is particularly appreciated as the needs of clients and the demand for our services has increased substantially during these unprecedented times. We are forever grateful for BCB’s support.”
