While banks are generally not known for being the most entertaining places, that changed last night as Butterfield Bank held an Open House to showcase their newly renovated and reopened Front Street Banking Centre, with musical performances and original artworks by 17 Bermudian artists on display in what the bank said was a “celebration of local talent, culture and creativity.”

A spokesperson previously said, “The design of the fully renovated space was inspired by records and photography of the original 1923 banking hall found in Butterfield’s archives. In celebration of local talent, culture and creativity, original artworks by 17 Bermudian artists are exhibited throughout the Front Street Banking Centre.

“Art was curated with the assistance of Lisa Howie of Black Pony Gallery and Selange Gitschner of Dasfete.

“Local artists on display include Nhuri Bashir [a.k.a. HAQQ], Alfred Birdsey, James Cooper, Jayde Gibbons, Phoebe Hughes, Sabriyya Harvey, Gherdai Hassell, Stratton Hatfield, Catherine C. R. Lapsley, Bill Ming, Sharon Muhammad, Emma Sloan, Dr Edwin M.E. Smith, Michael Walsh, design company Uber Super Duper, and Charles Zuill.”

It’s really nice and modern. Now could BNTB have a modern on line banking website for customers, and not the so called “upgrade” that is so bad it’s pathetic. Half the time you can’t get on line because of the OTV which is not needed, but if it is make it work 24/7/365, not as and when.

The “upgrade” may not be great, but it is better than the disaster Butterfield Bank had previously. Why Butterfield Bank moved from its original platform to the previous disaster remains a mystery to me.
