Bermuda Team Competing In Optimist Worlds
A Bermuda team will be competing in the 2021 Optimist World Championship which is taking place in Riva del Garda, Italy.
A spokesperson said, “Team Bermuda flew their countries flag high and proud as we marched through the streets of Riva del Garda, during the opening ceremony of the 2021 Optimist World Championship, which Officially opened yesterday, in Riva del Garda, Italy.
“Racing started on July 2, with four fleets heading out for qualifying. The regatta consists of 259 young sailors from 55 countries. Each country participates with a maximum of five athletes. After three days of qualifying, the teams will be involved in two days of the Team World Championships and on Tuesday, 7 July 7, the final stages will begin.
“The president of the Federation Italiana Francesco Ettorre, underlined how everything in the world of sailing begins with the Optimist class. All five boys were eager to get out on the water today and start racing.
“Today’s placings saw PJ Rodrigues at 88th, with 22 and 29th place in his fleet. Jordan Vieira standing in 102nd with a 33rd and a 25th in his fleet. Ethan Thompson in 138th with a 36th and a 37th, Kipling Rossouw with a 174th with a 55th and a 30th and Jack Adderley in 214th place with a 40th and a 59th.
“Today saw a typical Garda Ora wind, blowing steadily from the south at approximately 12knots. Fresh water lake sail racing, is different from what our Bermudian sailors train with, but they are all holding their own and proud to be here representing Bermuda, Their coaches and their clubs.”
