Minister Ming On Recent Shooting Incidents
Following the recent shootings — with two shootings taking place in under 10 days resulting in a total of four people being injured — Minister of National Security Renee Ming urged anyone with any information about the incident to please share it with the police.
Minister Renee Ming said, “I join the BPS and the community in condemning the shooting incident in the Court Street area. This is the second shooting incident to take place in just over a week; the last one being July 25, 2021 which left two men in the hospital with gunshot wounds.
“The shooting incident is very concerning, particularly as it happened during the middle of the day with bystanders nearby.
“As I visited the areas this afternoon with the Gang Violence Reduction Team [GVRT] and spoke with residents and businesses, I heard and observed their distress and concern.
“I extend my thoughts and prayers to the victims and I wish them a speedy recovery, including the two men who were shot last weekend.
“And sadly this latest incident follows a spate of anti-social activities that occurred over the long weekend.
“In that regard, I wish to extend thanks and appreciation to the Bermuda Police Service and our uniformed personnel including the Police Reserves and the Royal Bermuda regiment who were considerably engaged in trying to ensure that our community were compliant and safe.
“With that, we are asking for the public’s assistance and cooperation in today’s incident and any other violent incidents which occurred recently.
“All incidents remain under active investigation.
“I am urging anyone with any information to please contact the Police and share what they know.
“Anyone with information can call 211, the main police number on 295-0011, the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number on 800-8477.
“We have faced a few gun related incidents in the past few weeks. All matters are still under investigation, and we are urging anyone with any information about any of the events to please contact the Police and share what they know about this incident.
“Bermuda I would like to assure you that the Government is committed to ensuring that our residents are protected and safe. We are unwavering in our pledge to keep our neighborhoods safe and we are focused on ensuring that we have the right support in place to safeguard our community.
“The Ministry of National Security will continue its priority of supporting the GVRT in its efforts of tackling the root causes of crime and working towards reducing violence in our community.”
BS!!!
Very concerning, yes, and also given the efforts to finalize and promote the North East Hamilton Plan which seeks to attract investment and opportunity in north Hamilton.
This woman should not even hold this position.
Her qualifications are what.
Thoughts and prayers don’t work or the Rev. would have solved it all by now.
Waste of reporting.
Will this impact on the north-east Hamilton public consultation (https://bernews.com/2021/08/north-east-hamilton-public-consultation-opens/)?
A real genius, this woman is.
What exactly does the GVRT do?
How do we/they measure their effectiveness?
