October 8, 2021

“To date the UK Government has procured and transported nearly 95,000 vaccines at no cost to the Government of Bermuda,” the Governor said.

In an online post, Government House said, “The UK Government has supplied all of the UK Overseas Territories with testing supplies, PPE, medical equipment and vaccines free of charge.

“Deliveries of booster shots are now beginning as part of the UK’s enduring commitment to the Overseas Territories. This week vaccines were also delivered by the FCDO to the British Virgin Islands and even as far as the British Antarctic Territory.

“The UK is one of the largest donors to the COVAX facility and will also be donating 100 million vaccine doses within the next year. So far total UK has shared over 10 million doses – 4.1 million bilaterally and 6.2 million through COVAX.

“The UK has supplied vaccines to countries in Asia and Africa, but also seven countries in the Caribbean region [Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Vincent and Grenadines].

Governor Rena Lalgie said, “I am proud of the UK Government’s ongoing support to the Government of Bermuda as they continue to respond to this global pandemic. An additional 11,700 doses of vaccines [plus ancillary equipment] arrived yesterday to be used as first doses and boosters.

“To date the UK Government has procured and transported nearly 95,000 vaccines at no cost to the Government of Bermuda; providing the opportunity for nearly 70% of Bermuda’s population to be fully vaccinated.”

Thank you UK for your kind efforts. Now, Bermuda Government. How can you possibly allow discrimination against the unvaccinated when not even enough vaccine doses were brought in to vaccinate everyone? 95,000 doses only covers 47,000 people. Last time I checked all the vaccinated were whining about the unvaccinated.
