Christopher Earns Spot On All-CAA First Team
Bermudian footballer Nia Christopher was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team.
The school’s announcement said, “For the second season in a row, four Towson University women’s soccer players have been honored on the Colonial Athletic Association [CAA] All-Conference Teams, announced by the league on Wednesday.
“Four all-conference selections tie the most for Towson in program history, also achieved last season.
“Nia Christopher earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team, while Jasmine Hamid landed on the All-CAA Second Team. Phoebe Canoles and Riley Melendez each were placed on the All-CAA Third Team.
“These four helped Towson earn its first winning season since 2007, concluding the year at 8-7-3 overall and 3-5-1 in CAA play. Eight wins also ties the most in a season for Towson since the Tigers won nine in 2011; Towson had eight victories as well in 2013.
“Across the CAA, Towson’s four all-league selections tie for third in the conference for the most, only below the CAA’s top two finishing teams UNCW and Hofstra.
“Christopher is Towson’s first All-CAA First Team selection since Katie Ponce in 2014, picking up her second all-conference honor, being Second Team last season. The sophomore forward from Bermuda stands tied for 11th in Division I, and second in the CAA, with 13 goals this year, ranking third in Towson single season history. She earned five of the team’s eight game-winning goals, has two assists and currently leads the CAA in total shots with 81.”
