Issue Impacts All, Requires Everyone’s Attention
“This issue impacts us all, and thus requires the attention of everyone,” Transitional Community Services [TCS] said in reference to the recent acts of violence, adding that “this is not a problem that can be solely resolved by our government, and will require collaboration of all stakeholders.”
A spokesperson said, “The lingering impacts of the recent acts of violence on the community are untold. What we know is that while it appears that these acts are being perpetrated by an isolated group of individuals undoubtedly these acts have residual effects.
“We think about the families of those directly impacted, and we must also think about those who are innocent bystanders, and about the community as a whole.
“No longer can we consider these incidents isolated, as the most recent events have proven that these acts are not restricted only to certain areas of Bermuda. Indeed, this issue impacts us all, and thus requires the attention of everyone. This is not a problem that can be solely resolved by our government, and will require collaboration of all stakeholders.
“What we are experiencing as a community is the loss of men, particularly young Black men, at an alarming rate whether it be through death or incarceration.
“The result hits us all; for example, our economy and labor force are impacted, not to mention our social services. This has undoubtedly impacted the quality of life for everyone in Bermuda and will continue to do so unless we all work together to address it.
“At Transitional Community Services [TCS], we continue to create a space through our Community Bridge Builders program for young adult men aged 18-34 to partner with us to shift the trajectory of their lives.”
