‘We Support The Govt In Many Of The Changes’
Shadow Minister of Health Michael Dunkley expressed his support with the Government’s intended changes to a number of the Covid-19 policies which are currently in place.
This follows after Minister of Health Kim Wilson announced impending changes to the Covid regulations, including but not limited to, the size of large groups increasing from 30 to 50, raft-ups being permitted and the Government “changing the pre-arrival test requirement to accept antigen tests.” The Minister said “the legislative and guidance changes will take effect from Monday, 29 November.”
Shadow Minister of Health Michael Dunkley said, “We are pleased today to see the Minster of Health give an update on the management of Covid-19 in Bermuda. We are also pleased to see much of what the One Bermuda Alliance said in the Throne Speech debate; such as it is time to open up but with sensible precautions, as Covid is not going anywhere.
“It’s good to see changes being actioned by the Government as our economy is in a dire situation and we need to try to rebuild it as best as we can at this point knowing that Covid is not going to disappear over the next number of months or perhaps couple of years.
“We support the Government in implementing many of the changes, which include the student 7- day pass which should help our restaurant and hospitality sector do more, and increasing group sizes and still exercising precaution as we go along.
“Furthermore, we support the Government as it looks to amend travel requirement as our conversations with people in the community show that’s it a real detriment not only to hospitality and locals but also to international business.
“We look forward to learning full details of the Government changes. We also request that amendments be made to the travel authorisation application because it appears to have run out of its useful lifetime. It is burdensome and, with all we now know, it can be greatly simplified to allow us to be competitive and to make travel easier for Bermudians.
“While Government states that the $75 fee is not onerous, in many places our competition does not have a TAA fee attached to it. Bahamas and the United States are two countries close to us who have a more streamlined process. If we really want to be competitive, we need to make sure we look at what other jurisdictions do and our closest competitors and major trading partners are at the top of the list.”

We still have the most conservative rules out there, the worst being masked children in schools which is inhumane.
The rest of the world gets on with life, and accepts the consequences of not vaccinating while Burt reflects on how well he is doing.
You have to be conservative or you would be the first too march and say they were too liberal as you watch your child die. No aspirin solves this issue.
Factually and demonstrably untrue. You are a liar or hideously misinformed. Take your pick.
Listen, Bermuda does NOT HAVE THE MOST CONSERVATIVE RULES! As tiring as it is being responsible regarding this …. VIRUS we must be so, for ourselves & others. I understand how frustrated you feel….. we all do!. Try taking & planning ONE DAY AT A TIME ….. RATHER THAN LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE, It helps. Also do something nice for yourself too at times. Good luck. ” Have a good one”!
Why didn’t you come with your own plan weeks or months ago? If you want to get voted in next election tell the voters what you would do. The plp has proved that’s it’s a circus and the oba are the silent clowns.
Well actually, you are the clown
Why should they? They are not the government.
You couldnt have quoted the truth better! Agreed 100%.
Good question…we have proposed many items, some directly to the government as it is crucial we get out of this mess. In fact it seems they have taken some on board with the latest changes.
Mr. Dunkley when you make proposal make sure their listed clearly on the front page Bernews or the RG months or weeks before. That way when the PLP Government proceeds with the same action the voters can see who they stole their ideas from.

Two weeks ago Mr Dunkley told the House Europe was doing well and he had checked the facts. Mr Chris Famous called a point of order telling him he was incorrect. Mr. Dunkley insisted he was right. And what do we hear now….Mr. Famous was right. Now to wait for news from the USA who were NOT conservative at their sporting events and Macy’s Day Parade.
You sadly are being loose with the facts, my entire speech is available on hansard for anyone who wishes the facts to read.
Your views are verbatim to what has already been stated. We need counter or better views of what we don’t already know or support! Or just go away as anyone can sit there and confirm their support of something! We need an effective opposition and not one that just agrees with the establishment when they get it right! You guys could have put gaming in during AC but you decided to do polititricks because your F&F were threatened! You assumed that you would not lose the election because of AC instead of campaigning hard to win! A lot of today’s ills can be put at your feet!
The only thing the OBA lied about was that the homes located across from the old Swizzle inn restaurant on South Shore would fall into the sea. This cost tax payers so much money because people refused to buy them. Look around bda if that property did fall into the sea every home or hotel would be the first to go. I know it’s a political game between the OBA and PLP but lies will not work with swing voters.
Mr. Dunkley needs to remain because in truth the OBA is nothing without him.
Unlike you at least I am willing to stand up and serve. If you do not like what is going on or who is elected then get involved and help make a difference instead of hiding behind a pen name.
Stay healthy.
A politician with feelings? That’s why you lose!
You 2 are classic examples of allegiance to the PLP cult. Someone like Michael does not need to serve as an MP, he does it to serve the people. Most of the PLP MPs do it for the money, or they would be unemployed, or on the public payroll, maybe like you?
Spoken like a real politician who chooses to whine and cry about service instead of offering one new and credible solution. And that is why you fail! Enjoy living in the shadows and be healthy yourself.
