Acting Premier Pays Tribute To Archbishop Tutu
[Updated] Acting Premier Diallo Rabain today [Dec 28] paid tribute to the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, calling him “a fearless visionary.”
Acting Premier Rabain said, “A fearless visionary. The international outpouring of love and admiration is simply incredible as the world remembers this humble man who led a movement founded in his Christian faith.
“He never failed to speak truth to power and his moral compass never wavered, irrespective of who wielded that power. Archbishop Tutu’s life is a powerful example of the strength and conviction needed to effect change and achieve justice.
“Bermuda joins the world in paying tribute to his life of service to others and expressing condolences to his family and the people of South Africa.”
Update: The One Bermuda Alliance said they extend its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
“The world has truly lost an icon with the passing of Archbishop Tutu,” said Michael Dunkley, Shadow Minister for National Security. “Desmond Tutu coined the vision for South Africa as a Rainbow nation.
“He challenged the African National Congress (ANC) when it was infested with corruption. He said that if they did not address corruption in the party, he would fight them with the same energy that he fought apartheid, which ended in 1994.”
“Archbishop Tutu was committed to creating a better South Africa for the generations behind him. May he rest in peace.”
