BWS Issue Gale Warning For Friday Afternoon

[Updated] The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] has issued a Gale Warning valid for Friday afternoon [Jan 14] through Friday night.

The BWS forecast for Friday says, “Cloudy & wet start; drier and brighter afternoon, wet night. Winds southerly strong gusts to gale force, increasing southwesterly strong to gale force by afternoon with gusts to storm force, veering west-southwesterly strong to gale force with gusts storm force by evening and then westerly overnight, easing west-northwesterly strong with gusts gale force towards dawn. High near 21°C/70°F, low near 17°C/62°F.”

Update 12.25pm: A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security is advising the public that the island will experience unsettled weather on Friday [January 14], noting that a Gale Warning will be in effect.

“According to the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS], sustained south-westerly gale-force winds up to 35 knots and storm force gusts to 60 knots could be experienced tomorrow afternoon into the early dawn hours of Saturday.”

Minister Renee Ming said, “I am encouraging the public to take the necessary safety precautions as the unsettled weather approaches the island.

“The public should also remain vigilant and prepared during these cooler months which can see frequent winter gales.”
