Partial Road Closure For Night Shift Trench Work
The Ministry of Public Works advised that “the ongoing BELCO trenching project on Middle Road in Smith’s will commence January 19th, 2022 and possibly run to March 18th, 2022.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Because the trench alignment is continuing along the road’s centerline and for the safety of the public, a road closure will also be implemented for a night shift to occur.
“Nighttime work will entail saw cutting the surface of the road from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with cleanup until 10:00 pm for approximately 2 nights per week, Monday and Wednesday or possibly Friday nights.
“Daytime work will entail installation of pipes, backfilling trench and paving from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.
“Detour Routes to avoid this section of road will be North Shore Road either via Jennings Road or Store Hill.
“Traffic controls will be under the direction of a BELCO representative and will be managed through traffic control signals and detour signs.
“The Ministry of Public Works would like to thank the public for their ongoing cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience that may result. The Ministry is aiming to expedite the trench work efforts to reach the BELCO substation in Flatts as soon as possible.
“Should there be questions regarding the BELCO trench works, contact Jonathan Pedro, Project Manager for BELCO on 295-5111 ext. 1441. Queries relating to detours, contact Tina Beer-Searle, Acting Principal Highways Engineer for the Ministry of Public Works on 501-3044.”
Wait….so the road is closed for a good stretch. How do you access Flatts Post Office? If you live on Harrington Sound Rd, you can’t reach it that way and so one has to drive to Verdmont rd via St. Marks rd.
