‘Murder Investigation Into Death Of 49-Year-Old’

[Updated] The police have confirmed they “commenced a murder investigation into the death of a 49-year-old male who passed away after being involved in an altercation” in the Shelly Bay area, with a “46-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident.”

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] has commenced a murder investigation into the death of a 49-year-old male who passed away after being involved in an altercation which occurred around 4:35 p.m. yesterday, Wednesday, 2nd February, 2022, in the area of Shelly Bay Field, Hamilton Parish.

“The victim was transported via ambulance to King Edward Hospital, where he was attended to for head injuries sustained during the altercation. However, he was subsequently pronounced dead.

“A 46-year-old-male has been arrested in connection with this incident.

“Anyone with information regarding this matter, is asked to call Acting Sergeant Foote, of the Criminal Investigations Unit, on 247-1744.”

Update 8.25pm: The Minister of National Security Renee Ming said, “I would like to let the family know that they are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

“As the investigation into the recent murder gets underway, I want to strongly encourage anyone who may have witnessed the assault to share what they know with the Bermuda Police Service.”
