TLC: Living Centre Opens Doors To Five Families
The Transformational Living Centre [TLC] for Families opened its doors last week to 5 families in need of housing and other support services.
“After receiving the go ahead for occupancy, all of the preparation and teamwork came together, with an emotional day of moms and their children entering their new home for the next 12 months of their lives,” a spokesperson said.
“It was a very emotional day for everyone, for both guests and staff members. There are currently only 5 resident guest families, until it is safer to expand. It is also a time of discovery, relief, healing and exploration of new hopes and dreams, as well as discovery for TLC Director and Staff.
“The TLC was always a community project. And one such Pembroke community member, Ms. Sharon Jacobs has embraced this attitude wholeheartedly.
“Ms. Jacobs approached the TLC during the renovations and requested permission to provide complete coverings for every window and door in the facility.
“To put this into perspective, the TLC has approximately 40 windows, 10 bathrooms and doors throughout the facility. Some of the windows and doors required blinds only.
“Ms. Jacobs was invited to tour the facility and coordinated and purchased window coverings according to carpet, wall and storage colorings. When she discovered that bedrooms needed more privacy, she added financial donations for further blinds to ensure that moms and their children had the best possible privacy. Most recently, Ms. Jacobs and her family donated further funding to enhance the hard wood floors with area rugs.”
Ms. Jacobs stated, ‘I always wanted to get involved in community service. The opportunity arose when I heard about the TLC and contacted Elaine Butterfield, the TLC Project Leader, to inform her that I was willing to provide all the drapery, blinds and curtain rods, as well as outfit all curtains and mats for the bathrooms. I was really excited to help the TLC as my passion is interior decorating, sewing and silk flower arrangements. I am also quite pleased at how everything has turned out.
“I asked my family to donate funds for supplying rugs to give a cozy feeling and it certainly does. I am really excited that I am able to assist the TLC and wish them all the best in providing a secure and safe place for Moms and their children to have a second chance.”
Ms. Jacobs has also donated several hours of cleaning of floors, bathrooms, and room set up, as well as hanging of curtains and providing special gifts of toiletries for moms like bubble bath.
“The Transformational Living Centre [TLC] for families wishes to take this opportunity to say thank you to Ms. Jacobs, her family and all other community partners who have come forward to allow this day to happen,” a spokesperson said.
