‘Grande Togo’ Vessel Diverts To Bermuda

The Grande Togo vessel – which was traveling from Baltimore to Senegal – diverted to Bermuda as a “crew member was suffering from cardiac difficulties and required urgent medical assistance.”

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a satcom call from the Italian registered 47,232grt RoRo Vessel Grande Togo located approximately 500nm south-east of Bermuda advising that a Filipino crew member was suffering from cardiac difficulties and required urgent medical assistance.

“In liaison with the US Coast Guard, it was confirmed for the vessel to divert to Bermuda at best speed where the crew member would transfer ashore to the local hospital. The RoRo vessel was on passage from Baltimore in the US, bound for Dakar in Senegal, gave an ETA at the Deep Draft Position for Tuesday 22nd March 3:30pm.

“The vessel subsequently arrived and transferred the patient safely to the Pilot/Rescue Boat St George and was transferred to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Grande Togo remained offshore to wait for a new Chief Engineer to fly to Bermuda and be transferred to the ship before continuing her voyage.“
