Muay Thai fighters Ashton Bell and Tyler Kerr represented Bermuda with pride during their title bouts at the Warriors Cup in New York last Friday [April 1].
Bell, vying for the super-middleweight championship title, was competitive throughout his five-round contest against his highly skilled opponent, Dominic Murn, losing 48-47 on points.
Meanwhile, Kerr showed plenty of courage against his more experienced counterpart, Marco Matias, in the lightweight championship title before the referee stopped the bout with 28 seconds remaining in the fifth round.
Chuck Morgan, chairman of World Boxing Council Muaythai Bermuda, who coaches both fighters at Fight City Muay Thai and Fitness, said: “Tyler was trying to push the pace and got caught with an elbow. He got back up [but] his opponent didn’t let up and finished the fight strongly.”
The Warriors Cup, considered the top Muay Thai promotion on the East Coast of America, was held at the Melrose Ballroom in Astoria, Queens.
