Pirates Of Bermuda Challenge On April 23
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation [BSF] today formally launched the 2022 edition of its annual Pirates of Bermuda fundraiser, inviting the community to join the cause and “save or sink” a roster of willing “pirates”, with the event set to take place on Saturday, April 23rd from 11.00am to 2.00pm.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Sloop Foundation [BSF] today formally launched the 2022 edition of its annual Pirates of Bermuda fundraiser, inviting the community to join the cause and “save or sink” a roster of willing “pirates”.
“The BSF’s Pirates of Bermuda Challenge will take place from 11am to 2pm on Saturday April 23rd in front of Number 1 Shed parking lot in Hamilton. The public is invited to watch as participants on board the iconic Spirit of Bermuda ship either walk the plank and dive into Hamilton Harbour or turn up to show off their best pirate costumes.
“The community is also invited to join in and help raise funds for the BSF’s experiential education and life-skills programmes for middle school students on board the Spirit of Bermuda. The public can donate online to either “save or sink” participants listed on the Ptix website www.ptix.bm ahead of the event.”

“Pirates is our biggest fundraiser and remains a fun and easy way to support a great cause, whether you participate as a pirate or donate towards what happens to them at the event,” said Robin Hamill, CEO of the BSF.
“All proceeds go to our education and youth development programmes, as well as our Pathways programme for young Bermudians to pursue marine-based careers. Any financial contributions to support this fundraiser are appreciated, as our programmes have proved to be life changing for many young Bermudians.”
“Each pirate is tasked with collecting as many donations as possible in advance, to either walk the plank and take the plunge into Hamilton Harbour or be saved from doing so.
“The response to sign up as a pirate and support our efforts has been so gratifying, and we appreciate everyone who has already done so,” added Mr. Hamill. “It’s not too late to sign up and participate in the event on April 23rd! We have pirates from government, industry, schools – it’s really a community gathering. Anyone can join in, as long as they’re 18 or over, vaccinated for COVID and can swim!”
