BHS & HSBC Launch ‘She Leads’ Programme

May 12, 2022

BHS and HSBC have launched the third annual She Leads: A Real-World Readiness Programme.

A spokesperson said, “BHS and HSBC are pleased to announce the launch of the third annual She Leads: A Real-World Readiness Programme.

“The BHS Charitable Trust, with HSBC’s support, is proud to continue this groundbreaking public/private partnership, designed to connect students across schools and provide them with a meaningful leadership and development programme. The week-long programme will teach the young women coping skills for stress, boost their confidence, strengthen their resilience and ultimately build their leadership skills.

“She Leads was created by Christie Hunter-Arscott, a 2001 BHS alumna, strategic advisor on gender issues, author and speaker, as an extension to the “I Lead” Leadership Framework which was launched at BHS in 2019. The goal was to deliver the leadership framework to young women in the wider community and address the issue of gender inequality in the business world.

“While women in Bermuda have made great strides, they are still underrepresented in senior positions and are paid less than their male counterparts, across industries and sectors. The programme was designed to give these young women tools to navigate the challenges of the real world, and immerse them in an environment where they could network and forge relationships across school and community contexts.

“The programme has been expanded this year to accept female students from all schools in Bermuda. There are 22 spots available to students from The Berkeley Institute and CedarBridge Academy, 11 spots are available to BHS students and two each to the rest of the private schools [Bermuda Institute, MSA, Saltus, Somersfield and Warwick Academy]. There are also two spots available to any home-schooled students.”

Judy Doidge, HSBC Corporate Secretary and Executive sponsor of the ‘She Leads’ initiative, said, “We are excited to see this programme grow with opportunities now being given to additional schools to participate. This expansion provides these young women with the unique opportunity to broaden their networking circle with their peers across Bermuda.

“Each year, the young female cohort impresses us with their intellect, confidence and poise with some of the past participants becoming young entrepreneurs and/or moving onto higher education. We have been a proud supporter of the ‘She Leads’ initiative over the past 3 years and find these young women inspiring, with very bright futures ahead.”

The spokesperson said, “Students can expect a week filled with inspiring speakers, workshops and personal reflection to learn the tools needed to take ownership of their education, careers and lives. It has proven to be a transformational programme for all who have taken part and 100% of previous participants would recommend it to other young women.

The networking opportunities and friendships they form over the week are invaluable.
