Minister Lawrence Scott On Road Safety Week

May 20, 2022

“Today marks the last day of Road Safety Week in Bermuda,” Minister of Transport Lawrence Scott said in the House of Assembly today [May 20].

The Minister said, “On Monday, 16 May 2022, at City Hall, the Bermuda Road Safety Council launched Road Safety Week from 16-20 May 2022. This year’s theme is ‘Drive so that others survive.’

“The Council, along with the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and Bermuda Police Service, had booths available on site where information was shared to raise awareness about road safety, promote safe and responsible road use, and ultimately reduce road casualties.

“Throughout Road Safety Week, the Council continued to shine a light on road safety through a social media blitz and roadside signage. Beyond this week, the Council will continue public education and awareness through the Operation Caution, Road Safety Strategy.

“During this week, all of Bermuda is urged to take that extra moment and think about the people we share the road with because our driving behaviours and the decisions we make while driving and riding can have fatal consequences.

“I take this opportunity to remind the public that driving responsibly and safely goes a long way in helping all road users to arrive home, and the greatest gift you can give your loved ones is to come home safe. Although today is officially the last day of Road Safety Week, let’s continue to “Drive so that others survive.”
