Masters, Stevens, Webster & Falcucci Promoted
Carey Olsen Bermuda announced the promotions of Bermudians Kyle Masters, Sam Stevens and Jay Webster to the Carey Olsen group partnership and Michelle Falcucci to counsel, with effect from 1 July 2022.
Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited managing partner Michael Hanson said: “It makes us immensely proud to be able to announce these promotions. We have always been clear that our talent management strategy was underpinned by a considered career path for talented Bermudian lawyers.
“Nothing underlines that fact more than seeing these four individuals gain their promotions in the latest round. We are now up to 10 partners in Bermuda and over 30 attorneys.
Jay Webster, Sam Stevens, Michelle Falcucci and Kyle Masters
“In the case of Sam, Jay and Michelle we were able to persuade them to leave their roles at large international law firms in global centres such as Singapore and London, while we convinced Kyle to return to private practice from an in-house role.
“Their promotions have vindicated those early decisions, and we have been incredibly fortunate to have them as part of our team. Each of them has demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge as well as total dedication to providing a high level of service to our clients.”
“Kyle is a specialist in regulatory and compliance law, internal and external risk mitigation, corporate governance, enforcement actions and business strategy.
“He has also appeared regularly as an advocate in the Bermuda Supreme Court and Court of Appeal undertaking a wide variety of commercial and civil litigation. Kyle has also practised in the firm’s Hong Kong office, where he helped to launch Carey Olsen’s Bermuda law offering to Asia clients.
“Sam specialises in the resolution of civil and commercial disputes, frequently with a cross-border element. He has particular experience in international arbitration, having practised in London, Dubai and Singapore before returning to Bermuda. He appears regularly at all levels of the Bermuda courts.
“His dispute resolution experience covers a broad spectrum of different sectors, including banking, insurance, real estate and healthcare. Sam also leads the firm’s dedicated debt recovery practice in the Bermuda office, advising secured and unsecured lenders, service providers and judgment creditors.
“Jay joined Carey Olsen in 2018 from the London office of a major US firm. He has considerable experience in both the Bermuda and London markets advising companies, partnerships, LLPs and senior executives on all aspects of employment and immigration law.
“In particular, he has expertise in the strategic handling of senior executive conduct and performance issues, executive exits, team moves and restrictive covenants, as well as large scale global restructuring and reorganisations, collective labour disputes, business and data protection issues, sensitive grievance and disciplinary investigations, discrimination and whistleblowing complaints and employment-related litigation.
“Michelle advises on all aspects of Bermuda corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, joint ventures and debt and equity offerings. She also has considerable experience in funds and investment services and regulatory compliance and prior to returning home was a member of the private equity real estate and investment funds team at an international law firm in London.
“Earlier this month, it was also announced that experienced structured finance lawyer Matthew Grigg was to join the Bermuda office as partner.”
