Govt & City Trash Collection During Cup Match

[Updated] The City of Hamilton and the Government both issued advisories about garbage collection over the Cup Match holiday.

City of Hamilton

A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton wishes to advise City businesses and residents that garbage collections will be scheduled on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 27th – Normal garbage collection will take place for Residents.
  • Wednesday, Last collection will take place at 5:00pm for Businesses and Bars only.
  • Thursday, July 28th and Friday, July 29th – No Garbage Collection
  • Saturday, July 30th, – Businesses, Bars and Restaurants only.
  • Monday, August 1st – Normal garbage collection will resume for all.

“All garbage should be placed on the sidewalks or designated garbage areas by the times indicated in the Refuse Collection Schedule.

“Please do not place garbage out for collection unless a collection is scheduled for that day.”

Update 11.13am: A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works advises that due to the Cup Match holiday, household waste that would usually be collected on Thursday, July 28th and Friday, July 29th, will instead be collected on Saturday, July 30th.

“West-End recycling will be collected on Wednesday, July 27th, while East-End recycling will be collected on Saturday, July 30th. All other waste collection is unaffected by the holiday.

“Residents may also use the public drop-off at the Tynes Bay facility for household waste during both days of Cup Match between 9 a.m. and noon. The main tipping hall at Tynes Bay will also be open during the holiday from 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

      Why is this news? My garbage usually gets picked up at least a day late – sometimes two anyway.

    Is the full fleet of Garbage trucks in service or are many of them out for repair? Normally when crunch time comes
    Is when the most problems occur. I too say “We’ll See” Surprise me.
