Goodchild & Pettit To Compete In Mexico
Tobiah Goodchild and Tristan Pettit will be participating in the JITIC U14 2022 Tournament from July 22 to July 29 at the Cancún Tennis Complex in Mexico.
The pair, coached by National Coach Steve Bean, is expected to face intense competition in singles play against players from the Caribbean and Central American countries.”

Coach Bean said, “The JITIC event is like the Grand Slam of the Caribbean and Central American region, of all the tournaments that they have from the various islands. This is kind of like the amalgamation of those tournaments. That means that all the best players around the Caribbean and Central American area most likely will be at this event. You’ve got girls and boys, so there’s going to be a lot of people there.
“Tristan and Tobiah are in the first year of the U14s, so when you meet up against the second year players in the U14s, it is often you find boys are a little bigger and stronger than you. Our two boys are very skillful and among the best on the island, and I imagine that their level is going to be somewhere around the middle of the pack.
“They are going to be better than some and not as good as others. But the experience that they’re going to gain from playing in this event is going to be well worth the effort that they put into all of this. Hopefully, the intention is and the expectation is that we play well enough in our group that we can get into the main draw.”
Tristan Pettit said, “I’m feeling pretty good about my game. I’ve been doing a lot of preparation. I’m hoping that I can make it into the main draw, but I won’t be that upset if I don’t because I know there are a lot of good teams out there and I’m happy that I get to go for the experience.”
Tobiah Goodchild said, “It’s helped my preparation a lot because I’ve gotten a lot of match playing. So I think I’m more ready than I was before the tournament.”
The pair will see their first action on Saturday.
