Update: Work In Palmetto Rd, Barker’s Hill Area

July 4, 2022

The Ministry of Public Works issued an update on the ongoing BELCO trenching project in the Palmetto Road, Barker’s Hill and North Shore Road areas.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform the motoring public that the ongoing BELCO trenching project on Palmetto Road has reached Barker’s Hill roundabout.

“The Palmetto Road westbound lane has been closed and traffic is being rerouted via North Shore Road and Barkers’ Hill to head west on Middle Road. Inclusive the northbound lane on Barker’s Hill is closed and traffic is being rerouted via Parson Lane to reach Palmetto Road.

“Once this trenching section has been completed and paved, the trench will continue through the roundabout to the North Shore Road westbound lane and extend east to Store Hill junction.

“Trenching work is ongoing until Friday September 2nd, 2022. Working hours will be from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Sunday.

“Motorists are asked to avoid the lane closure section on Palmetto Road and lane closure section on Barker’s Hill by using alternative routes via Middle Road from Store Hill or Frog Lane.

“Traffic controls will be under the direction of BELCO representatives and will be managed through traffic control signals and directional signs during rush hours.

“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction sites and avoid speeding to protect themselves and construction workers on site.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full cooperation of the public and apologizes for any inconvenience that may result.

“Should there be any questions regarding the BELCO trench works, please contact Mr. Jonathan Pedro, Project Manager for BELCO on 295-5111 ext. 1441. Any queries on detours, contact Mrs. Tina Beer-Searle, Acting Principal Highways Engineer for the Ministry of Public Works on 501- 3044.”
