Oliver Betschart Competes In Scotland
Oliver Betschart is competing in the 2022 R&A Junior Open in Scotland, with the 13-year-old one of the youngest in the field which features golfers from over 60 nations.
A spokesperson said, “The 2022 R&A Junior Open is being hosted at Monifieth Golf Links, Monifieth, Scotland. The R&A Junior Open has boys and girls from over 60 countries competing against each other.
“This year marks a tournament debut for 13-year-old Oliver Betschart, the Bermuda Golf Association male junior representative for 2022.
“In testing wind conditions with the 11.18am tee time, in his first tournament on a traditional links-style golf course, Betschart’s first hole saw him open with a double bogey. He went on to post four bogeys and a birdie to shoot a four-over on his opening nine.
“During the course of the afternoon, he faced increasing winds with repeated shifts, and came back in with a battling five-over, 40 to post a final score of nine over par, 81. One of the youngest competitors in the field, an opening round 81, leaves Oliver in a tie for 91st place, only two shots back from making the 36- hole cut line. The top 80 including ties will make the cut and progress to the final round of The R&A Junior Open.”
