Bermuda Coast Guard Tows Disabled Vessel

August 23, 2022

The Bermuda Coast Guard towed a disabled 21ft vessel with two persons on board to Robinsons Marina last weekend.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Sunday 14th August, 8:00pm. Bermuda Radio receives a call from a disabled 21 foot vessel with two persons on board. The vessel is off Pompano, drifting inshore and requests a tow.

“Bermuda Radio advises use of a commercial towing service. When the casualty declines paying, Bermuda Radio offers to make broadcasts on their behalf. Broadcasts are made on 16, 06, and 08. One fishing vessel running from The Banks advises able to help in an hour if needed.

“As the disabled vessel has mentioned that it is right over the reef Bermuda Radio is hesitant to task the larger draft fishing boat if it can be avoided. Bermuda Radio calls the Bermuda Coast Guard who advise that they have a vessel in the area and would be able to tow the disabled boat to Robinsons marina. Bermuda radio provides the location of the disabled vessel and the Coast Guard asset tows it to Robinsons.”
