Fully Loaded Allstars Win Softball A Division

August 4, 2022

Fully Loaded Allstars are the new softball A Division Playoff Champions following a best of five playoff series.

A spokesperson said, “With all the others divisions having completed their best of five playoff finals, it was left to the A Division to do the same. However, unlike the other divisions, the A Division was a best of three games affair. Fully Loaded Allstars battled against Blue Wahoos in a double header and in the first game they were able to defeat Blue Wahoos with a comfortable score of 18 – 9.

“Wahoos’ Chris Jackson led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. Allstars’ bats came alive in the top of the third inning as they drove in six runs, highlighted by a Terence Corday grand slam to lead 6 – 1. Wahoos closed the gap with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including a Jeremy Estey two run double.

“Allstars plated four runs of their own in the fourth inning with Jevon Roberts driving in Steve Simons from third base with what would prove to be the winning run. Jackson drove in two more runs for Wahoos in the bottom of the fourth inning to keep the score respectable at 10 – 6. Both teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with Simons belting a solo shot of his own.

“Five insurance runs in the seventh inning by Allstars put the game out of reach and gave them at least one hand on the trophy. Corday [1 homerun, 5 RBI] and Simons, Roberts, Danny Cook and Trevor Corday with two RBIs each led the attack for Allstars. Jackson [2 for 3 – 1 homerun, 3 RBI] and Jeff Morash [2 for 4] led the line for Wahoos in a losing effort.

“The second game of the double-header was a much closer affair. Shane Matchett led off in the top of the first inning with a home run to put Wahoos on the scoreboard, but it was neutralized when Steve Simons drove in his brother, Jason, from third base on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. Both teams traded runs in the next two innings and the game took a turn in the bottom of the fourth inning when Allstars’ Steve Simons blasted a shot to drive in three runs and give Allstars a 6 – 4 lead.

“Wahoos scored one run in the fifth inning and a further four runs in the top of sixth inning, highlighted by another solo homer by Matchett to lead 9 – 6. Allstars went hunting for trophies in the bottom of the sixth as they plated five runs, including another three run homer by Simons, to retake the lead 11 – 9.

“A Matt Katzsch RBI double and an EBI single by Will Tyrrell in the top of the seventh inning were crucial in keeping Wahoos in the game as they were able to tie the score at 11 – 11. In the bottom of the inning, Allstars kept their composure as their first two batters both singled to reach base safely.

“The third batter, Jason Simons, singled to score Richard Caisey from second base with the winning run thus making the final score 12 – 11. Fully Loaded Allstars are the new A Division Playoff Champions. Brothers Steve [2 homeruns, 6 RBI] and Jason [2 RBI] led the line for Allstars while Matchett [2 homeruns, 2 RBI] and Tyrrell [3 for 4, 1 RBI] were the standouts for Wahoos.

“Softball will take a hiatus for the month of August and return in early September to commence the Post Season Invitational Tournament, the third and final phase of our season, which should run until the end of October.”
