Proclamation To Make Monday A Public Holiday

This Monday [Sept 19] will be a Public Holiday to coincide with the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Government has confirmed.

A Government House spokesperson said, “Today, Her Excellency the Governor, Ms Rena Lalgie, has made a Proclamation declaring Monday, 19th September a Public Holiday to coincide with the National Day of Mourning and the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“A Government spokesperson also advised that Her Excellency and Premier David Burt have been invited to represent Bermuda at the State Funeral.

“In addition to attendance at the service at Westminster Abbey, the Governor and Premier, with other Overseas Territories representatives, will attend the Lying-in-State and a reception hosted by His Majesty the King.”

    Good Day will this be a yearly thing, if so shouldn’t we have one of the September holidays in October? Due to our children returning school in September. Please DON’T get me worry about have this holiday I Feel it could be a great thing for family and teacher.

      It’s a one-off day.

      I’d expect there will also be a public holiday on the day of the new unelected head of state’s formal coronation though. Unsure when that will be, but I’m guessing December at the earliest, and January more likely.

        Ah Comrade Starling,

        Given the public’s ability to elect twatwafflebunglefarts such as BoJo, Trump and Burt and vote in referenda for Brexit and against SSM I think I quite like the idea of an unelected head of state who sits as a beacon of decency above common politics.

        While it doesn’t make any sort of logical sense, it does keep the lid on somewhat.
