Covid: 106 Positive, 122 Active, 6 In Hospital

The Ministry received 4,574 test results — spanning 7 days — and 106 were positive, so there are now 122 known active cases, of which 6 people are in hospital.

A Government spokesperson said, “Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 4574 test results, and 106 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 2%.

“These results are from testing done on:

• 1. Tuesday: 13 positive out of 957 results [1.4% positivity]
• 2. Wednesday: 24 positive out of 892 results [2.7% positivity]
• 3. Thursday: 9 positive out of 574 results [1.6% positivity]
• 4. Friday: 15 positive out of 561 results [2.7% positivity]
• 5. Saturday: 12 positive out of 288 results [4.2% positivity]
• 6. Sunday: 22 positive out of 656 results [3.4% positivity]
• 7. Monday: 11 positive out of 646 results [1.7% positivity]

“80 of the new cases are classified as imported.

“The additional 26 new cases are classified as either local transmission [19] or under investigation [7].

“Additionally, there were 125 recoveries and 0 deaths.

“There are 122 active cases, of which:

• 1. 116 are under public health monitoring; and
• 2. 6 are in hospital, with 0 in intensive care.

“Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 18019 coronavirus cases, out of which 17749 have recovered, and sadly there have been 148 coronavirus-related deaths.

“The source of all active cases is as follows:

• 1. 85 are Imported
• 2. 23 are classified as local transmission
• 3. 14 are Under Investigation

“The source of all confirmed cases is as follows:

• 1. 4021 are Imported
• 2. 13883 are classified as local transmission of which:
  • 1. 5921 are Local transmission with known contact/source and
  • 2. 7962 are Local transmission with an unknown contact/source
• 3. 115 are Under Investigation

“The Ministry of Health has advice for parents as they prepare for the start of the new school year, check their children’s school supplies, and freshen up their uniforms to help them be ready for a healthy school year.”

“After a great summer, children are returning to school, and it is important that they are well prepared for a healthy school year,” said Minister of Health Kim Wilson. “The past two years have been disruptive for our children’s education, but we expect this year to go relatively smoothly, especially if we prioritise their health.”

The spokesperson said, “Here are a few tips to prepare for a healthy school year:

• 1. talk to your children about how they feel about going back to school,

• 2. schedule a checkup with the doctor and dentist,

• 3. catch up on any missed vaccinations,

• 4. buy and eat more vegetables and fruits, and consume less sugary, salty snacks,

• 5. make movement a habit; children need 60 minutes of physical activity every day,

• 6. reduce TV time and gaming,

• 7. establish bedtime so that children get plenty of rest,

• 8. remind your children about the importance of hand hygiene, especially before and after eating, and,

• 9. pack tissues, hand sanitiser and a face mask for your children.

“Ask your child’s school nurses to provide information about screenings, health assessments, and healthy habits. Public, private, and home schools have access to a school nurse.

“Remember to contact your child’s doctor or dentist for an appointment or Call 278-6460 to schedule an appointment at one of our Child Health Clinics.

“The Ministry of Health wishes all returning students a healthy and happy school year!”
