Monument Re To Sponsor Backyard Ultra Event
Bermuda based reinsurer and consolidator Monument Re Limited will be the title sponsor of Run Bermuda’s Backyard.
The inaugural running event, the first of its kind to take place in Bermuda, will start from Clearwater Beach at 9:00 am on December 3rd. The race will loop around Cooper’s Island, taking in sand, trail, and road and some of Bermuda’s best views.
A spokesperson said: “We are delighted that Monument Re has seen the potential of this new event for Bermuda. Their support will help us deliver a memorable experience for participants, establish the race as a new highlight in the Bermuda running calendar, and raise money for our partner charity, Raleigh Bermuda.”
Manfred Maske, Group CEO of Monument Re, said “We are pleased to support what promises to be an exciting event for Bermuda. It is our hope that this contribution will also provide assistance to Raleigh Bermuda and the work they do to support and empower young Bermudians”.
A spokesperson added, “With a sponsor onboard the organisers of the event will donate all entry fees to support Raleigh Bermuda youth programs.
“The event, officially affiliated with the Backyard Ultra series, challenges participants to run a 4.167 mile loop every hour. The remaining time before the start of the next hour is used for rest and recovery before a new loop starts when the next hour strikes.
“There is no requirement for participants to run a specific number of loops at Run Bermuda’s Backyard. The organisers welcome runners to take part in a single loop or as many as they want.
“Bermuda’s Backyard Champion will be the last person to complete a loop, while age group prizes will also be awarded.
“The race is designed to provide a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, where all participants start together for each loop and the fastest runner will not necessarily be the winner.
“It is hoped that many of Bermuda’s running community will come out to support the first edition of Run Bermuda’s Backyard, whether they are hoping to reach a personal milestone, set a new personal best in this exciting format, or simply try a new challenge.
“Sign up for the event is now open via RunSignup. Search for Bermuda Backyard. The registration fee is $50. Donations for Raleigh Bermuda can also be made through the Run Sign Up site.“
