Despite rain causing the postponement of half of the week’s tournament, softball action took place with a number of matches held.

In D Division action, Killawhat knocked Five O’s from their perch as the only undefeated team with a thrilling come-from-behind 12 – 8 win. Five O’s erased a 3-run deficit in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring five runs including Tyler Nelmes’ 2-run single to lead 5 – 3. Darrin Simons’ 2-run double in the bottom of the 4th inning put Five O’s up 8 – 5 and they must have tasted victory on the horizon.

However, Killawhat had other plans as they scored one run in the 5th inning and another in the 6th inning to reduce the deficit to 7 – 8. A hold in the top of the 7th inning would have secured the win for Five O’s. However, Killawhat scored five runs on five hits including pitcher, Dwayne Daniles’ 3-run double and a 2-run single by Freddy Simons to lead 12 – 8 and put the pressure on Five O’s to deliver in the bottom of the inning. Daniels was able to sit them down in order to seal the victory for Killawhat. Daniels [2 for 4 – 1d, 3rbi], Freddie Simons [1 for 4 – 2rbi] and George Fubler [3 for 4] led the way for Killawhat while Darrin Simons [2 for 4 – 1d, 3rbi], Khalid Pitcher [1 for 3 – 1d, 2rbi] and Nelmes [1 for 3 – 2rbi] provided the bulk of Five O’s offense in a losing effort.

In Women’s action, Western Stars Angels kept their unblemished record intact with a dominant 11 – 1 victory over Rainbows. Terry Paynter [2 for 3 – 4rbi] led the charge with a pair of 2-run singles while Rickelle Smith and Siyou Hall were a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate. Sherron Mills scored an unearned run for Rainbows whose offense was limited to four total hits!

Hardknockz defeated PHC Zebras 14 – 8. Zebras scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning including an rbi triple by Taznae Fubler and a further two runs in the 2nd inning, both on bases loaded walks, to lead 4 – 0. However, Hardknockz were able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning plating eleven runs on ten hits including a 3-run double by Latreece Fray and a 2-run double by Kyanne Scott to lead 11 – 4; a lead they would never relinquish. Taché King [4 for 4 – 3t, 1d, 3rbi], Fray [3rbi] and Scott [2 for 4 – 1t, 1d, 2rbi] led Hardknockz’s attack while Fubler [2 for 3 – 2d, 4rbi] and Tahirah Hill [1 for 3 – 2rbi] were the top batters for Zebras.
