In A Division action, Paraquet Flyers inflicted Moongate Brewers with their first loss in tournament play 16 – 11 behind the in-form Jorgito Castellanos who led all batters with an impressive [4 for 5 – 2hr, 7rbi] performance. Castellanos blasted a grand-slam in the top of the 1st inning highlighting a 10-run onslaught which had Brewers playing catch-up for the remainder of the game. He followed that with a two-run shot in the 3rd inning to put Flyers ahead 12 – 6 which turned out to be all the runs they would need for the win. Brewers kept it interesting when Mike Sakata homered in the bottom of the 5th inning to pull within one run. However, Flyers added four insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning to put the game out of reach. Josh Bang [4rbi] and Joe Torres [3rbi] also contributed to Flyers’ success. Sakata [3 for 4 – 1d, 1hr, 2rbi] and Gary Adams [2rbi] led the Brewers’ offense in a losing effort.

X-Bats stayed in the hunt as they bested Blue Wahoos 18 – 15. Jeremy Estes’ two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning helped Wahoos to a 5 – 3 lead. However, their lead quickly dissipated as X-Bats scored six unanswered runs in the 2nd innings behind a Daniel Andrade grand-slam and they added four more unanswered runs in the 3rd inning including a two-run blast by Mark James to take a commanding 13 – 5 lead that they never relinquished. Robbie Bailey’s solo homer in the top of the 7th highlighted X-Bats’ final three runs. Andrade [3 for 5 – 1hr, 6rbi], Bailey [4 for 5 – 1d, 1hr, 3rbi] and James [2 for 3 – 1hr, 1sf, 3rbi] did most of the damage for X-Bats. Wahoos’ Estes [4 for 5 – 2d, 1hr, 6rbi] was impressive at the plate ably assisted by Sheldon Chychrun, Alex Brown and Rachel Sawdon with 2rbi each.

In women’s action, Western Stars Angels continued their dominance as they powered past PHC Zebras 23 – 8, by way of the 15-run Mercy Rule, to maintain their undefeated record across all divisions! Angels scored five runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings to lead 10 – 0 with Debbie DeShields driving in two runs in each inning. Zebras eventually put runs on the board in the 3rd inning [three runs] and 4th inning [five runs] but were unable to add to their tally for the remainder of the game. Angels, after scoring one run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, piled on six runs in the 5th inning and six additional runs in the top of the 6th inning with Rickelle Smith driving in 2rbi in each inning. Smith [3 for 4 – 3d, 4rbi], DeShields [3 for 4 – 1t, 5rbi] and Tamisha Manders [2 for 5 – 1d, 2rbi] lead the way for Angels while Tahirah Hill [2 for 2 – 1d, 4rbi] and pitcher, Ciera Fox [2 for 4 – 1rbi] provided the best resistance for Zebras.

Rainbows outdueled Hardknockz 26 -15. Rasheen Durrant drove in two runs in the top of the 1st inning as Hardknockz plated four runs and held Rainbows to one run in their half of the 1st inning. An unearned run in the top of the 2nd inning increased Hardknockz’ lead to 5 – 1. Rainbows put their sputtering offense in gear scoring three runs in the 2nd inning and then exploded for eleven runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take a commanding 15 – 5 lead. Gina Wheatley’s two-run double in the 4th inning made the score 17 – 5 putting the game out of reach as Hardknockz would only manage to score ten runs for the rest of the game…five runs in the 5th inning, three runs in the 6th inning and two runs in the top of the 7th inning. Four insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th inning including a two-run double by Adrienne Smatt and five more runs in the 6th inning including a two-run single by Katie Masters helped seal the win for Rainbows. Rainbows were led by Sherron Mills [4 for 4 – 4rbi], Wheatley [4 for 5 – 2d, 4rbi] and Smatt [3 for 5 – 1d, 3rbi]. Durrant [5 for 5 – 3rbi] and Latreece Fray [3 for 5 – 3rbi] led Hardknockz albeit in a losing effort.

In B Division action, Team Smokey saw their undefeated status take a hard tumble as they were outclassed by The Kings in five innings by way of the 15-run Mercy Rule. The Kings now sit tied atop the tables with Team Smokey after their 21 – 5 victory. Tory Richard blasted a three-run shot in the top of the 1st inning to assist The Kings in scoring four runs. Albert Acevedo pulled back a run in the bottom of the inning when he singled home Quincy Jones from third base. The Kings were not deterred from their objective as they plated seven runs in the 2nd inning including a solo homer by Richard Campbell and a two-run double by John Rolph. Team Smokey attempted to keep pace with The Kings but could only manage to score three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning and rounded out their scoring when Acevedo belted a solo shot in the 3rd inning which would turn out to be their final act of scoring in the game. Les Dziwenka blasted his own solo shot in the bottom of the 3rd inning to give The Kings a 12 – 5 lead and they went on to score five runs in the 4th inning including a two-run dinger by Tory Richard and a further four runs in the 5th highlighted by Richard Campbell’s three-run homer. Tory Richard [4 for 5 – 1d, 2hr, 5rbi], Richard Campbell [2 for 4 – 1hr, 4rbi] John Rolph [2 for 4 – 1d, 2rbi] and Mike Malott [3 for 5 – 2rbi] did the bulk of the damage for The Kings. Team Smokey’s resistance came from Gabriel Curiel [2 for 2 – 2rbi], Acevedo [2 for 3 – 1hr, 2rbi] and Gerald Simons [2 for 2 – 1d].
