Repairs Made, Harrington Sound Road Re-Opens

October 10, 2022

The Ministry of Public Works confirmed this afternoon [Oct 10] “that the stretch of Harrington Sound Road, which was closed yesterday due to a road cavity, has been re-opened to all motorists.”

A Government spokesperson said, “A team from the Ministry’s Highways section performed initial repairs to the site and re-opened the road last night. Once the rainfall has stopped, the team will look further into the cause of the collapse.”

Minister of Public Works Lt /Col David Burch commented: “I’m grateful for the quick response to this incident on Sunday from our Highways section, which wasted no time in sealing off the area, as soon as it was brought to our attention.

“I’m also grateful that no one was injured and that no vehicles were damaged in what could have been a serious road traffic incident. This occurrence demonstrates the need for the road infrastructure upgrades the Ministry is carrying out island-wide. The road trench work and related works are necessary to improve our public structures for the future.”

Well done Public Works. I didn’t expect the quick repair. I travel down east M-F and it’s good know I still have two route options. I’m sure the 1 and 3 bus passengers are appreciative too. I’m also glad no one drove into the hole.
