The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] introduced the Non-Governmental Organisation [NGO] partners joining them for their second annual ‘Youth Climate Summit’ in November.

“Included in the weeklong Summit is the Environmental Showcase, held at BUEI on Friday, November 25th, for participating students. Throughout the day, representatives from local environmental organizations and supporting partners engage directly with students, sharing what they do and why. Their presentations enable summit participants to identify potential resources and collaboration opportunities, and to use the information to inform their own action plans.

“Our returning NGO partners include Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme [BOPP], Guardians of the Reef, the Bermuda Zoological Society, Waterstart, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences [BIOS], the Bermuda National Trust, GreenRock, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST] and Beyond Plastic. New to the Environmental Showcase this year are Raleigh Bermuda and Nonsuch Island Expedition.”

Karla Lacey, CEO of BUEI, said that “Bringing all partners together provides an ideal opportunity for Summit participants to directly engage with organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability, conservation, and climate-related issues, whether directly or by providing support and funding. It received the highest engagement scores last year and its impact was mentioned by all who participated.”

The spokesperson said, “The Youth Climate Summit is a free event for students aged 13 – 22. From November 21 to 26, the weeklong event and prepares and empowers students to address climate on a local level and is the foundation for a year of youth-led initiatives.

“Registration opens Friday, October 7th on www.YCSbda.com and closes at midnight on Sunday, October 23rd. For more information, contact info@ycsbda.com.”
