Minister Speaks At Cyber Security Conference
“The Government of Bermuda recognises the critical importance that Information and Communication Technology plays not only in business but our daily lives,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks.
A Government spokesperson said, “Minister Weeks made the statement during the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cyber Security which was held last week.
“The conference, which saw leaders from around the world speak on cyber issues, aims to examine and analyse the emerging cyber law, cybercrime and cyber security trends facing countries today.
“More than 1,100 people attended the event, including government officials, law enforcement representatives, the corporate sector and the judiciary.
Minister Weeks who spoke virtually at the conference added, “Bermuda has a Cybersecurity Governance Board which is made up of twelve members that include members from both Government and non-Government entities and is chaired by an industry expert.
“The main purpose of the Cybersecurity Governance Board is to implement our National Cybersecurity Strategy, which the Government approved in 2018.
“Like many long-term strategies, it did not anticipate or allow for a pandemic. During 2020 and 2021, we, like I am sure many of you, had to divert resources to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Unfortunately, this delayed the delivery of the goals of the cybersecurity strategy. Having said that, considerable progress has been made in implementing the strategy.”
A spokesperson added, “The Government has made cybersecurity a priority and the Ministry of National Security plans to introduce a Cybersecurity Bill in the House of Assembly next year followed by a CyberCrime Bill.”

Really, Bermuda now has a Minister who is an expert on cybercrime? What are his credentials, because no other Minister seems to have any experience in their field? Seems like more talk about what needs to be done, but nothing about what has been done. PLP all over. Talk, talk talk.
He’s got his cheat sheet in front of him.
The obaUBP is not smart enough to make a cheat sheet unless its called the Jarion Richards replaces Cole before the next election lolol. Steve Wonder can see that option won’t work. Dunkley is the better choice to lead your party and you continue to front men of color to look diverse.
Right? Why bother with diversity?…the plp doesn’t.
Practice makes perfect
You realize the more you post, you sound like a racist? Trust me I’m a black Bermudian that supported the UBP and now I support the OBA. With you and a few others posting so much dislike how can we attract the support we need to control government again.
How does the PLP get the support it does with their internet warriors attacking everything the OBA does ?
I’m afraid I can’t answer that my friend. I’ll leave with this to ponder because its always on my mind. How can folks such as khalid A Wasi speak against a party but dont appear to support the other party?
Just because a person (taking Khalid Wasi as an example) disagrees with one political party and voices that dissent does not mean that he agrees with the other political party.
I think some people , when it comes to politics , have much thinner skin than others . Either that or an agenda .
As for Khalid , he’s been around enough to see all sides , much more so than most online commenters .
I think that experience allows him to be critical without taking sides. I always enjoy hearing what he has to say .
Everything in Bermuda is centered, unnecessarily, on race.
Grow up, move on. Everyone in Bermuda is a racist. Proudly homophobic as well….that deters more than you think.
Not everyone in Bermuda is a racist and not all Bermudians are racist. But the PLP Government has retained power by creating a certain climate in Bermuda and no member of the PLP Government will easily let go of that power.
As for homophobia, it is a small but vocal minority, not the majority in Bermuda.
Yeah, but people keep voting for homophobia.
Perhaps it’s time for the majority to speak up. Their silence indicates consent.
Communications are no longer by sail….the world knows instantly when Bermuda exercises her bigotry.
Yes it does. Bermudians are happy with the situation.
It’s embarrassing, and sad.
Interesting that the Minister never mentioned that the government servers were hacked in 2021 and never reported to the news.
