Seven Graduate From Anti-Violence Programme
“Your graduation from this programme is further proof that one can overcome adversity and deep pain – even while incarcerated,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks to seven male graduates of the Life Minus Violence programme at the Westgate Correctional Facility.
A Government spokesperson said, “The curriculum for inmates involves a cognitive behavioural group work environment focused on reducing the risk of aggression within clients who have a history of chronic aggression.
“It also looks at core aggression literature and takes advantage of the recent developments in aggression theory.
“This includes focusing on the motivation for aggression rather than the type of aggression and understanding that people can have different motives for hostility.
“The programme emphasises a client’s strengths and occasions where aggression has not been chosen to further enhance understanding of how this can continue to be replicated.”
Minister Weeks added at the ceremony last week: “I want to thank the family members here today who have supported their loved ones who have taken part in this programme.
“I believe that family support is crucial whenever we are working with people who are facing life challenges and are looking toward rehabilitation within the wider community.
“Many times, we hear negativity over some of the things that happen behind these walls and not always about the positive developments.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the members of staff within the Department of Corrections who have worked closely with the participants and who have helped to make it successful. Your work and dedication have not gone unnoticed.”
