Kiwanis Club To Celebrate “Kiwanis Week”
Members and friends of the Kiwanis Club of St George’s are celebrating the annual observance of “Kiwanis Week” – a worldwide celebration of the 1915 founding of the international service club.
A spokesperson said, “The weeks runs from Sunday, January 22, through the following Sunday, January 29. However, in addition to the week-long activities, Kiwanis St George also marked “Kiwanis Day” – Saturday, January 21 – which is the actual anniversary of the establishment of the first Kiwanis Club, back in 1916, in Detroit. Michigan.
“On Sunday members and friends kicked off the celebration by attending the regular church service at Open Door Christian Assembly, in St David’s. This event was held under the auspices of the current Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis Clubs in Bermuda, David Burgess. Each year, the incumbent Lieutenant Governor selects the location of the service.
“Following the church service, Kiwanians and friends assembled for a luncheon as they prepare for other activities planned for the coming week, in keeping with the overall theme of ‘serving the children of the world.’
“Monday morning, weather permitting, will see a group of members and friends gather at the Swing Bridge round-about to cheer on motorists going from and to St George’s and St David’s. Caring for children is the main theme, and this gesture hopefully will send people off to work wearing a smile.”
