Restaurant Weeks To Run From Jan 19 – Feb 28

January 5, 2023

The Bermuda Tourism Authority announces the return of the annual Restaurant Weeks from Thursday, January 19th to Tuesday, February 28th.

A spokesperson said, “The island wide event showcases a series of culinary offerings, with exclusive tasting menus and special experiences from Bermuda’s restaurants and chefs.

“This year, the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] has extended the experience to multiple weeks due to popularity. During this period, patrons can dine in many of the island’s restaurants. The programme offers foodies and international visitors a chance to feast around the island with specially priced, prix fixe menus.

“Kicking off the 6-week promotion on January 19th, 2023, is the Lost Yet Found Culinary Experience with Chef Dawn Burrell of the hit BRAVO TV series, Top Chef.

“Inspired by popular Bermuda dishes, Chef Dawn will fuse her African and Asian flavors with locally harvested ingredients to curate a four-course dinner paired with premium wines with each course. Prior to dinner, guests will enjoy specialty crafted drinks and will be escorted through interactive exhibits at BUEI with a live theatrical performance.

“An Olympian, philanthropist and now full-time chef, Burrell became a household name when she battled her way to the finals of Top Chef during season 18 of Bravo’s hit TV show.

“Before becoming a renowned chef, Dawn Burrell traveled the world representing herself and country in the sport of Track and Field. She returned home with an ardent desire to become a chef. Burrell attended culinary school, followed by an influential stage experience with Chef Tom Aikens in London.

“She has worked alongside Monica Pope at T’afia and Sparrow Cookshop and served as sous-chef at award-winning Uchi in Austin before being recruited to take the helm at modern Southern restaurant, Kulture, in downtown Houston. At Kulture, Chef Dawn’s vision of global comfort food garnered local and national acclaim and she was honored with a James Beard Award nomination in 2020.”

“Bermuda Restaurant Weeks has been a staple on our annual calendar for over a decade. Restaurateurs from around the island look forward to the opportunity to highlight local ingredients and unique Bermuda flavours while presenting fresh twists on Bermuda’s culinary heritage.” Tashae Thompson, VP of Experiences at BTA, said.

“With price points starting at $39 for a multi-course experience, our partners continue to deliver accessible options for both locals and visitors. Our team is particularly excited to drive a campaign that reinforces our commitment to position Bermuda as a year-round destination, providing memorable culinary experiences that will add a reason for our visitors to return.”

“I heard about Bermuda many years ago and its mystic has had me captivated since. I knew that it was a destination that I had to visit so I was thrilled to be invited to curate a menu that pairs my specialties and the island’s traditional cuisines,” remarked Chef Dawn Burrell. “I cannot wait to work alongside local culinary professionals and source from local farms to create what I expect to be some amazing signature dishes.”

The spokesperson said, “Restaurant Weeks 2023 will start on January 19th, running for six weeks through February 28th.  The decision to extend the series from 4 to 6 weeks was made following the successful extension last year. Restaurant Weeks offers will be available at 40+ restaurants with lunch packages starting from $25 for two-course, and three multi-course dinner menu options that run from $39 per person [gratuities and beverages not included]. Starting on January 9th, visit here to see a full listing of all participating restaurants and events.
