“Fifteen teachers and officials from the Department and Ministry of Education took part in the training at O’Hara House, AXA XL’s Bermuda office, on February 13 and 14. The workshop took place in preparations for the implementation of the Government’s education reform agenda, specifically the introduction of Signature Learning Programmes at Bermuda’s senior schools.
“The aim was to upskill teachers, equipping them with the knowledge that will support the curriculum development and teaching of IB related courses that form part of the Government’s new financial and insurance services Signature Learning Programme for senior school students.

“The workshop stemmed from a discussion between ABIC and Tammisha Francis Wainwright, a co-lead within the Ministry of Education’s newly formed Education Reform Unit, about promoting IB subjects that enable Bermuda’s young people to develop the knowledge, skillsets, and relationships to succeed in IB.
“ABIC intends to further strengthen its partnership with the Ministry through the signing of an MoU that will cover ongoing support through avenues such as visits to public schools to speak to students, facilitating school tours of businesses, internships with students, externships with teachers, and work to make more Bermudian students aware of the career opportunities available in IB.”
Patrick Tannock, Chairman of ABIC and CEO of AXA XL Insurance in Bermuda, said, “ABIC applauds the instructors for giving of their time, the Ministry of Education for supporting the programme, and the teachers for buying into the initiative. As international business is the island’s primary economic engine, it is imperative that we continue to build the local talent pipeline by raising the level of awareness of the opportunities within the sector and attracting more young Bermudians who are interested in pursuing careers in it.”
Minister of Education Diallo Rabain said, “This is an excellent initiative and I appreciate what ABIC is doing. Everyone in Bermuda is needed to move the needle in public education. This programme is the type of partnership with the private sector that will truly help us to encourage Bermudian students to be prepared for careers in IB and to be productive and contributing citizens of Bermuda.”
